Ferry Boat History
A ferry has operated across the River Blyth since 1236. It has always been a rowing boat until 1885 when a chain ferry was put into operation to take cars cattle and even elephants. This ran until 1940 when it was laid up and Dani's Great grandfather and his brother resurrected the rowing boat service. The main cargo nowadays is people, bicycles and dogs but the essence of the Walberswick Ferry hasn't actually changed very much for hundreds of years.
